Emergency Edge First Aid (EEFA) provides remote and wilderness first aid training for people who work, travel, or recreate beyond the reach of immediate emergency services. Delivered through the Canadian Red Cross, our courses develop the practical assessment, treatment, and decision-making skills needed when help may be hours away.
Rather than learning exclusively in a classroom, you'll train in the environments where these skills are most likely to be used. Depending on the course and location, participants may camp together throughout the program, combining immersive outdoor learning, the camaraderie of camp life, and realistic hands-on scenarios to create a memorable training experience. Every course is shaped by the season, terrain, and weather, creating a unique experience while reinforcing the adaptability and problem-solving that wilderness first aid demands.
EEFA operates using a mobile training model, delivering courses throughout the Okanagan, Kootenays, and surrounding regions. By bringing training into the environments where these skills matter most, we create an immersive learning experience while improving access to specialized wilderness first aid education for rural and remote communities.
Remote First Aid with CPR-C/AED is a two-day course designed for people who work, travel, or recreate where emergency medical care may be hours away. Delivered through the Canadian Red Cross, Remote First Aid combines comprehensive first aid training with the additional knowledge and skills needed for remote environments.
Delivered entirely outdoors, this course provides an immersive learning experience where participants develop their skills in the environments they're most likely to use them. Depending on the location and schedule, your course may include camping accommodation, turning your certification into an outdoor experience you'll remember long after the course has finished.
Need Intermediate First Aid for work? For just $25, add dual certification and receive Intermediate First Aid with CPR-C/AED alongside your Remote First Aid certification. Instead of spending two days in a classroom, earn the workplace certification you need while developing practical skills in the environments they're designed for, so you're prepared for emergencies at work, on the trail, and everywhere in between.*
Participants learn how to assess and manage traumatic injuries, sudden illnesses, environmental emergencies, and prolonged care situations using limited equipment while developing practical evacuation and patient management skills. CPR-C and AED training are included, along with the decision-making and self-reliance needed when help isn't immediately available.
Ideal for: Hikers, campers, paddlers, hunters, anglers, off-road enthusiasts, outdoor workers, and anyone adventuring in places where medical aid could be several hours away.

Prerequisites:

No prior first aid experience is required.

Learners must be equipped, capable and prepared to spend the majority of the day (up to 10 hours) outside in all weather conditions.

If camping, learners are expected to bring their own camping equipment and make their own arrangements for food and beverages. We will email you a guide that will outline the available facilities and campground rules at your venue.
Wilderness First Responder with Basic Life Support (BLS) is an intensive nine-day course designed for outdoor professionals and experienced backcountry users responsible for managing medical emergencies where evacuation may be prolonged and advanced medical care may be many hours away. Delivered through the Canadian Red Cross, Wilderness First Responder develops the advanced patient assessment, treatment, leadership, and decision-making skills required to confidently manage complex emergencies in remote and wilderness environments.
Delivered almost entirely outdoors, this course provides an immersive learning experience where participants develop their skills in the environments they're most likely to use them. The terrain, weather, and season shape every course, ensuring each one presents unique challenges and learning opportunities. Camping accommodation is typically included, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the experience. Rather than simply learning wilderness first response, you'll live it. The result is more than a certification—it's an experience you'll remember long after the course has finished.
Participants develop advanced patient assessment, prolonged patient care, medical and trauma management, leadership, evacuation planning, and incident management skills while working with limited equipment and resources. Through realistic scenarios and extended simulations, participants learn to think critically, adapt to changing situations, and confidently lead the medical response until evacuation or transfer of care is possible.
